Environmental Technology

MFS-Eliminator Project

As part of the groundbreaking MFS-Eliminator initiative, Norrecco is playing a key role in developing and operating Denmark’s first full-scale, data-driven treatment plant targeting harmful pollutants at the source.

In collaboration with project partners, Norrecco will host the treatment system at one of our soil and waste handling facilities. The goal is to eliminate critical pollutants — including PFAS, heavy metals, PAHs, and nitrogen — before they ever reach municipal treatment plants or the wider environment.

By piloting this innovative system directly on-site, Norrecco’ s helping push forward new methods for handling complex environmental challenges. MFS-Eliminator isn’t just a technical project—it’s a step toward cleaner water and smarter waste solutions for the future.

From Waste to Building Blocks

Recycling of Concrete

Norrecco is taking concrete recycling to the next level by developing a full-scale treatment plant designed to efficiently separate and recover raw materials from construction waste. This includes not only processing concrete waste but also extracting high-value secondary resources such as sand, stone, and cement fines.

By combining innovation with industry collaboration, Norrecco supports a more sustainable construction sector and reinforces its role as a key player in Denmark’s green transition. This forward-thinking approach not only reduces the demand for virgin resources but also enhances value creation through smarter material use.

City Container

Smarter Waste Management

City Container has recently entered into a forward-thinking collaboration with TotalAffald to bring intelligent waste collection to the University of Copenhagen.

As part of this initiative, sensor-equipped tipping containers have been installed across campus. These sensors detect fill levels and automatically notify when it’s time for emptying — resulting in fewer unnecessary trips, reduced fuel consumption, and a smaller environmental footprint. The improved routing also allows drivers to operate more efficiently and with greater focus.

This smart technology is deployed where it creates real value. Food waste and similar materials still follow fixed collection schedules — but where optimization is possible, we embrace it to the benefit of operations and the planet.

MSW

Improving Work Environment

MSW is part of a national initiative to improve conditions for the waste workers who help keep our cities clean and livable every day.

Together with partners including the National Research Centre for the Working Environment, Behave Green has launched an ambitious project to gain insights into how everyday practices impact the health and safety of waste collection workers — and how targeted behavioral adjustments can make a real difference.

City Container has actively contributed by making drivers and workdays available for field studies. The project runs over a multi-year period, allowing researchers to gather in-depth insights and develop long-term recommendations that can benefit the entire industry.
